I am a Starbucks lover and dedicated customer, however if there was a David's in Chicago I would switch in a heartbeat! For one they serve Intelligentsia coffee which is my favorite, and two they will make you any breakfast sandwich that you can think up! Prices are fair and the atmosphere is great. You can definitely tell its a favorite of the locals. My boyfriend and I came here twice in one weekend instead of trying the other breakfast places in town because we just loved the food, coffee and staff's service so much!

We stopped in for lunch because of the YELP reviews. I had a Ruben sandwich and Maria had a cup of the ham, bean and rice soap. The Ruben was a big sandwich and they use a quality corned beef but it was served luke warm. Bummer! Maria didn't care for her soap. She said he had big slices of onion and chucks of tomato but bot much ham, beens or rice.Sevice was fast and friendly. The place was clean and orderly. The place is located in the heart of downtown. New Buffalo is a tourist town and very crowed in the summer.

This place is wonderful, the iced Chai's are the best!! And their sandwiches are amazing! great customer service, a very nice place to read or get work done I recommend it!

A great deli/coffee shop feel. They brew Intelligentsia coffee with a couple of choices of roasts, and you can get espresso, drip, or pour-over. High quality food, unique sandwich offerings, and they do all their own pickling. Always a vegan sandwich option.

Great find, thanks to you yelpers! Sandwiches great! Coffee great! Enjoyed sitting at the table in the window.

Good coffee, good sandwiches, GREAT cheese filled croissant. Seriously, that thing is amazing. On the downside, it's a little dirty in there. You'd think that with the amount of people behind the counter, someone could come come out and wipe some stuff down, organize and sweep up a bit. Guess not. But, overall, I will be back.

Opens at 7:30am MI time. Avoid the hordes at Rosie's. Try the breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel w/ bacon or ham. Tasty. Just the right size. Coffee is Intelligentsia, so you know it's great. Free WIFI & generally good mellow progressive-ish music. This place doesn't try to be something it isn't and ends up being much more than you expected.

Went for the first time this past weekend and while sitting waiting for my food my eyes glossed over the disgustingly dirty place and I was too grossed out to eat the food. I had a few bites and couldn't do more. The people who were "working" (watching the World Cup) all needed a shower at the least and a haircut and shave at best. The guy making our sandwiches had a plastic glove on one hand, and the other hand he kept using to touch his face, mouth, and pick at his beard. The restaurant I think, is supposed to be decorated in a creative manner - pictures crooked, coffee bean sacks tacked to cover the "stuff" behind the counter - but with the grime, dirt, and crumbs everywhere, the decor just adds to it looking filthy and unkempt.

Love a small neighborhood coffee shop! I will be sad if the rumors are true in regards to a starbucks opening because this place has great coffee and great little coffee snacks. I have not had any sandwiches but they look good too!

Stopped by for a great green tea ! Outstanding cool little place with free WIFI ! But servers could be a little friendlier ! But if in any area , give it a try !

We were looking for a good spot for coffee and donuts. We found David's. Huge selection of homemade donuts, fresh bagels, made to order breakfast sandwiches. Back patio where the kids could play while we enjoyed our reasonably priced iced lattes. Great find!!!

  • Monte R.

Great place, but you wouldn't know it from curb appeal. Awesome tea, ambiance, but surprisingly, one of the best Reuben Sandwiches that I've had in years! They have a great broccoli salad for a side, and the proprietors are just nice people. A real diamond in the lump of coal. The price was reasonable, the service was great, and I'd recommend it highly. It's absolutely worth the 5 minutes from the highway (I-94 at Exit 1 in Michigan, North to New Buffalo), to get here. I'll be back!!

Dirty, slow, but the food's good. Got the Georgia Reuben, which has turkey piled into a slab on a mild, toasted rye with a sliver of slaw in between that dangles over the edge like the grass in your Easter basket, and the potato salad as a side. Twas all very tasty and original. The quality was quite high as well with many of the ingredients made there. Now for the guy standing on the prep counter with his grungy shoes. And the dirt. And the crumbs in every nook, surface and cranny...ummm that's all something else. Honestly, I have seen cleaner places in third world countries. I am not complaining, but this place would be better if it took as much pride in its cleanliness as its food and drink. A recommended visit if you aren't a Lysol freak and you don't need your food for like 15 minutes.

Love this place. My favorite sandwich is the "Live Free or Daikon". I think a Daikon is some kind of raddish. Anyway, whatever it is, the stuff they pile on this sandwich and the sauce they lather it in is phenomenal. If you want something heavier, get the Veggie Reuben. You'll be stuffed. Very cool with outdoor seating in back and a ping pong table.

What a great little find! Thank you other Yelpers! I was looking for a quick bite on my way back from Chicago. A great location, just a few minutes from the I94 exit. This is the typical small town storefront restaurant/coffee shop. The deli has great Intelligentsia coffee and wonderful sandwiches. The corned beef reuben and veggie reuben were really good. The staff were very friendly too. I will make this my food stop with all my Detroit Chicago runs!

I must have been here on the worst day ever, because I had unfriendly, dead-eyed service and got a weirdly aggressive, repeating stare from one of the workers -- chambray shorts guy, I'm talking to you. And the turkey reuben is so greasy and sloppy that it's not only inedible; it also leaked through its (non-water/greaseproof) wrapper and the paper bag and onto my clothes in the car. I actively opposite-of-recommend everything about it. The extra star is for the only nice person in the whole place, who was trying to quickly fix the handle on the restroom door when I wanted to use it. He apologized in a charming way for something that wasn't even a big deal.

Nice coffee shop located in downtown New Buffalo. They have some of the best blueberry muffins and croissants in the area, baked fresh each morning. Two stars for two reasons-- 1.Coffee served there is exclusively Intelligentsia brand, which unfortunately I'm not a big fan of. I drink my coffee black, and much like Starbucks, Intelligentsia is not that great when consumed outside of a flavored coffee drink. Cup I had this morning tasted like burnt molasses and citrus--it was not a good taste. Very overrated label IMO and I'm not sure why they're stuck on this brand when there are numerous other options, including local roasters, out there. Most true coffee houses offer some variety, but not the case here. 2.Lunch fare consists of a number of current-event-y named specials and fancy sandwiches, many of which we've tried, and I guess the only way I can describe the eating experience is that although they use very good breads and ingredients, the sandwiches themselves are just not all that great. I think there's a lot that can be said about culinary training and how to properly assemble a sandwich, but I think you get the point. There are numerous ways to make a basic BLT, but only a few of them result in a really tasty sandwich when you eat it. This is their quandary. The counter staff has always been very friendly and they are open early during the week. Tips are optional. This shop has a lot of potential and I hope, in time, they perfect their products and expand.

Picked up a sandwich to go yesterday and all I can say is pay attention Owner! Ordered a sandwich with everything and got roast beef and bread. And not much roast beef at that. For 8.50 a complete rip off. The owner was not there but should have been. Always has been a great sandwich until now.

Great ice coffees. Croissants are amazing. Breakfast sandwiches are super tasty. We'll be back!!

This place has a fun, funky hipster vibe and really good coffee - Intelligencia. I have had most of their espresso beverages and they are generally very good. Snicker doodle cookies are delicious, and Iove the veggie Reuben with curtido and black bean burger, fresh avocado- yum! Breakfast sandwiches are affordable and yummy, but the sandwiches are a bit expensive. Service is moderately slow and sometimes not super professional, but I've never had a rude experience or had bad food.

Had great coffee here on a family vacay... also loved the turkey Rueben! Highly recommend.

  • Mira S.

I don't know the area well, so I don't know how this compares, but objectively I thought it was athree-star place. Coffee is good, both intelligentsia and well made. The bagels are frozen, but the other baked goods are fresh, and the croissant was good. Pretty limited selections of everything, though. A few baked goods, pretty basic coffee drink options, three reubens and three other sandwiches, plus a soup. On the upside, they make the soup fresh daily. I'd cone back, butbid probably rather try out something else in the area for comparison, first.

David's is the PERFECT spot for a late afternoon iced coffee to cool your sand burnt feet! It's old style deli in the front, quaint relaxed hipster in the back with outdoor seating if desired. The pickled Legos are a specialty and their sandwiches are amazing!! Highly recommend!

Great spot to stop and get some coffee. The cashier/baristas were friendly and helpful and drinks were good. Got an iced soy latte with vanilla and cinnamon syrups. Yum! Would go back if in town and get some lunch food (saw someone pick up a sandwich while waiting for my drink and it looked amazing!)

Stopped into David's Deli today for lunch. Hipster little coffee/tea and toasted sandwiches kind of place. Hubby ordered David's Reuben and I ordered the Georgia Reuben. They also offered different sandwiches that change weekly because this place is a true Farm-to-Table restaurant. The regular Reuben is served traditionally with thousand island sauce, cheese, sour kraut and corned beef on a light rye bread, then toasted. Excellent! Husband ate every mouthful and said he would definitely come back again for this sandwich. The Georgia Rueben is served with shaved turkey, thousand island sauce, cheese, coleslaw, on a light rye bread, then toasted. Fabulous! A different take on a California Rueben that is usually served with kraut on sourdough bread, this Georgia Rueben really tickled my tastebuds. Will return again! Place is clean, eclectic, and trendy. Staff is hipster in a nonchalant way. Stop by here for lunch or a light early dinner as they close at 6pm most days. Their coffee and tea smelled really good and the coffee is fresh ground in front of you. The open kitchen allows you to watch the staff prepare your food while you wait. Their website is notdavid.com .

The only reason I won't give them a 5 is because it wasn't clear that theoe mustard is brown Dijon mustard and not yellow. For those that despise Dijon but love yellow, that is a big problem. Other than that, everything was goods I enjoyed a build your own corned beef and my husband had a turkey grammar which he really liked. He is not a sandwich eater and he kept ranting and raving about his sandwich that included turkey, bacon, sweet potato, sautéed greens, and buffalo ranch sauce. I've never heard him talk so much about a sandwich. The other details are cool too. The big ass cookies are delicious and the random pickled objects adds a unique charm to the place. You feel comfortable as soon as you walk in, almost like you're at home. The outside seating area is relaxing. Overall, I'm glad we visited this deli during our time in New Buffalo. I'd certainly come back!

Great coffee and ambience. Short walk from Marina. Sandwiches were great as well - good quick lunch option!

Such a cute and delicious little shop! I worked at a coffee house for two years and I got the best hot chai tea of my life from David's. I also get a homemade blueberry muffin that was just out of this world! So tasty and flavorful. In addition, the prices were all very fair. Nothing was overpriced and they sold sandwiches and lunch food too. Very clean and fun atmosphere

  • Carrie R.

Went here for a quick breakfast. The place was cute but food was so so. I would assume most of the high reviews for this place are because of their Reuben's (which I didn't try). I had a cinnamon roll and asked for it warmed. It was fine. My husband had a breakfast sandwich and it was just ok. Coffee was good. We sat outside which normally we prefer, but in this case sitting inside seemed like it had a better vibe.

Great spot. Has a sort-of college-town, hipster vibe. Terrific pastries and coffee. Sandwiches look excellent. I want to try their Breakfast Rueben, which is bizarrely intriguing. They swear it's good.

Nice stop for a coffee and a delicious nutella croissant. Yummy. Cute spot in central New Buffalo.

  • Amanda F.

Ordered a pour-over and some sort of veggie sandwich. They were both good, however since I'm vegetarian I wouldn't know about the reubens that everyone is raving about. I do really appreciate that they take the time to do a pour over and don't seem irritated when it's ordered like other coffee shops I've been to.

I returned to David's Deli during a trip to New Buffalo again this spring and much to my delight, their reubens are as good as ever! They had also added a breakfast reuben to their menu. I love this place, and the addition of a community room in the back makes it a perfect hangout.

Very nice little cafe, the coffee just isn't my taste but otherwise nice customer service and a good place to visit.

Awesome place. Really good Reuben's, although a bit expensive. I love the "community room" with couches, books, and games. It really makes it feel like home.

I was hungry and as I was walking by I saw a display case with donuts, so I popped in. They only had one cinnamon roll left and it looked lonely. Yes, It was sticky and sweet and my face was covered in sugar. But it was just the kick in the pants that I needed. Clean and very freindly staff.

Shh. I've got a secret. Are you listening? You're gonna get lucky. How? You're gonna walk down the strip in New Buffalo and discover David's sells Intelligentsia by the cup and by the bag. And you thought you'd left your lover in the big city? You're welcome. Pimpin' Mike K.

I found this place on yelp and thought I had better try it out. Everyone is right. This place is awesome. Its kind of hippieish but pretty cool. It made me think the Dude from The Big Lebowski opened a sandwich shop in an old soda fountain store. I had the ruben and its was pretty good. A little too much dressing but still very good. My son had a buffalo chicken salad sandwich that he didn't like(he doesn't like anything except chicken fingers). I told him to go back up there and order a ham and cheese sandwich and the dude said he was happy my son was living outside the box. No Charge for the second sandwich. I would defenantly recommend this place.

Great find. Came with a friend who was vegan and the waitress recommended a vegan-friendly sandwich without prompting. Chill atmosphere and affordable. Sandwiches were unique and delicious.

My family goes here for breakfast every weekend in the summer. Friendly staff. owner and crew are tight and work there every morning. good coffee - intelligensia. Try the Reuben breakfast sandwich. Would be cool (pun) if they put some umbrellas on their back patio. All good though.

I love this cozy coffee shop. We need this kind of shop in Chicago. Very nice staff and delicious blueberry muffin/Iced americano. A big plus that its so close to the Station House.

I can't even walk by the place without buying and devouring a Georgia Reuben. The food is so good, I have started bringing the owners treats when I come. Reasonable prices, great coffee, free wi-fi.

Nice quaint shop in New Buffalo. Best coffee around - intelligentsia. The scones are fantastic so definitely chow some for breakfast when in the area. Staff is friendly albeit a little slow, but who needs a big city pace when getting a cup of coffee? Slow down and make a stop here.

David's Delicatessen seems to be a local favorite. There are white painted tin ceilings, beige walls, stenciled artwork hanging from thick strings, and a door to the basement labeled "The Batcave," lending the staff's fun young vibe. The meats and cheese here are Boar's Head, top quality. They offer whole and half sandwiches with your choice of condiments and fixings, including pestos, local greens, assorted cheeses and fresh vegetables. I ordered a half sandwich - the tuna salad on multigrain. David's does tuna salad right, with light, light mayo (I'm actually unsure if it had any mayo on it at all, which is fine by me!), little pickle bits, and tomatoes. Sandwiches come with a side of your choice: southern potato salad, coleslaw or broccoli salad. I chose the coleslaw, which was again, made with little to no mayo and dotted with large pepper granules. I like the light, airy feel in this place. The tall, backed red padded chairs are comfortable and the staff is very friendly. Coffee: Intelligentsia, quality. I'd pop in here again. Oh! And free wi-fi. I'm using it now. :)

I customized my sandwich and it was perfect- great soft wholegrain bread, deli mustard (spicy with seeds), crunchy lettuce, good cheeses, and a perfect pickle. Fast friendly service too. And a great cup of coffee.

Yes, I'm a fan of David''s. It's more of a coffee shop than a deli and with their location on Whittaker in downtown New Buffalo it's got a location to kill for. Staff typical coffee shop crowd, pleasant and accommodating. A place to fill your habit in NB.

Whenever I'm in Harbor Country, I stop by David's Delicatessen. The reubens are soooo good (and if you don't like reubens you can eat a non-reuben sandwich), and there's wi-fi, and a cool outdoor patio. The owners know all the tips to guide you around New Buffalo. And only 1.5 hours from Chicago! I hear they are getting quite a bit of fame out in Europe, too.

  • C M.

Sure, its the only place in town to get a decent latte or specialty drink but where they really shine is in their sandwiches and homemade soups and they have this hibiscus iced tea too that is u-mazing! Ps, they had Chobani greek yogurt which I love and have never seen at a coffee shop/deli anywhere. Yum!
